Op-ed: There is no place for tax cuts

The Ministry of Finance has arrived at the conclusion that it cannot afford the luxury of applying tax deductions that undermine revenues.

The Spanish government had to shelve tax benefits that it promised to PYMES and self-employed workers, and once again it was forced to break promises in this arena, because events are rougher than hoped for and the government does not have the budget to give tax breaks.

PYMES, the self-employed and other professionals were counting on breaks on their net tax liability through a postponement of the VAT tax, the charges collected from invoices or tax reforms for modules.

All that will wait for better times and left citizens with the feeling that the government does not have a clear idea of how to use taxes to get Spain out of the crisis.
