Once more the Ibex 35 has gone against the current with regard to the dominant trend in Europe. Although this time the game turned out okay considering that the main Spanish stock index made up for earlier losses by advancing 1.24% on the day, making it one of stars among European indexes and the only index to finish the trading day in the black. The Italian Ftse Mib recorded a 0.3% gain.
After yesterday's gains, the Ibex 35 is not in the black for 2012. Its returns on the year are 0.3%.
The banking sector spurred the Ibex along. It forms 36% of the index and in yesterday's trading session, all of the banks increased in value. Banco Santander showed significant gains as it rose 2.04%.Other leaders for the day were Mediaset, which had the biggest gain of the day at 2.37%. On the losing side, Gamesa gave up 2.44% on the day.
