Renfe is going to increase its tariffs by 7% on average due to the state reducing available subsidies by 400 million euros due to national budget cuts. This will not be the only increase.
Transportation consortium in Madrid and Barcelona are also expecting to update their tariffs as soon as their state subsidies for 2012 are cut. And the private sector will continue in this vein due to combustible fuel costs.
National budget cuts and rising petroleum costs ought to be reflected in tariffs that citizens pay for services, especially when the Public Administrations are operating at a deficit and tickets are not covering their costs.
There are means for reducing how many times prices will increase. Because even though the increases will not be well-received, they are inevitable.
