Highway construction companies ask for 600 million in credits to save the industry

Contractors that build highways are facing an extreme situation. The decline in traffic combined with an erroneous prediction for increased traffic has generated an enormous shortage of work in the sector, and the Minister of Public Works, Ana Pastor, does not want to wait any longer to find a solution to this problem.

Pastor?s department is working to merge companies within the sector, in return for widening the term of the concessions, a measure that would be very helpful for Abertis and that has awoken suspicious in some of the contractors that were awarded building privileged. Some of these contractors have declared their opposition to Pastor?s plan for mergers on grounds that it would be diffult for all the contractors to come to an agreement.

Pastor is working against the clock with banks and the contractors to try and find a solution.. In some cases, contractors have not received funding after having previously opened a process of renegotiation that is still pending.
