Op-ed: 250K forgiven of real estate loans

Andalusia has completed the first step of what may become a hackneyed government measure and repeated ad naseum by other Spanish autonomous communities.

In Andalusia, government officials are trying to legalize the ridiculous situation that urban sprawl has created over the past several decades. On the one hand, this is an embarrassing move of electoral politics.

On the other hand, the measure is attempting to do away with the precarious legal situation that homeowners are finding themselves in, which is attributable to the government's inability to control the real estate market.

The Registros de la Propiedad give hope for construction and avoid proliferating slums, but it is an affront for those who have honored the law.
