Op-ed: In support of the need for collective bargaining

In previous labor reform negotiations, social agents have shied away from collective bargaining. They are prioritizing their interests over those of the general public's, which are to end rampant unemployment and encourage hiring.

The structure of collective bargaining agreements in Spain is obsolete and needs urgent reforms that allow payrolls, salaries and working hours to be modified based on current economic realities, especially adverse realities.

But the labor union organization charts, and also those of the employers' organizations, live and are fed by the same networks and regional governments that are slowing down the agreements.

After bolstering this out of date and ineffectual negotiation system, they will show that they put their own whims and interests before the nation's principal needs. What a shame.
