In order to keep natural gas prices flat and defer a price increase to at least July of 2012, the PSOE and PP have joined forces to create a legal trick. They will approve a discount on the price of raw material in order to freeze the consumer's bill.
Does this practice sound similar to what has been done with power and consequently generated an enormous power tariff deficit because the costs of production were not paid for? Policymakers could possibly create a natural gas deficit worth 294 million euros, which would have to be paid in the future and with interest.
Didn't Rajoy say that the tariff deficit is on the Spain's main problems? We have to hope that this strategy will not be the common antidote for the new Ministry of Industry if we want to fix an energy model that is poorly-designed and in serious need of repairs.
