Producer Price Index (Nov.) We expect the November producer price index to rise 0.2%, with core prices up just 0.1%. Energy prices probably reversed about half of October's 1.4% drop, while food edged slightly higher. Producer price increases are slowing to a crawl, as soggy commodity prices intersect with soggy sales.
Industrial Production (Nov.) Industrial production scored an out-sized 0.7% gain in October thanks to the fourth consecutive monthly gain in motor vehicles, a whopper of a gain in mining, and a trivial dip in utilities?all wrapped around a solid month for most manufacturers. November does not look as robust, with vehicles losing a bit of ground, mining unable to repeat its strength, and utilities down on unseasonably warm weather that reduced heating demand. In combination with a modest gain in core manufacturing, this yields a slight 0.1% drop in overall production in November.
