Finally! After more than a year of taking for granted that the Spanish consortium was the favored buyer of AVE - La Meca, Saudi authorities have officially announced that Spain has won the contract of the century.
The team led by Talgo, Renfe, Adif and OHL will appropriate the high-speed concourse that will unite Santiago, Spain with Medina and assure revenues of at least 6.736 billion euros.
The discretion and the fear that the contract would not be signed due to meddling of French diplomats (who fought to the end in hopes that the offer from Alstom and the SNCF would win the contract instead) postponed sharing the news.
