Op-ed: La Sociedad Pública de Alquiler, a failure

La Sociedad Pública de Alquiler, a superstar project of the Ministry of Housing dedicated to fostering quality relations and conditions for homeowners and tenants, is about to vanish. While carrying out their mission, the institution has accumulated 30 million euros in debt, and in six months they have closed 18,000 deals, which is far from the 50,000 predicted.

The gap has brought about changes to the way the game is played: renters were required to pay more, and owners were being asked to drop prices. Something that, apart from contradicting itself, is not actually happening. These are the fruits of a policy that committed to intervening, but did not change the law in a way that gives legal security to homeowners.
