The hotel industry has done its job this summer. How? By filling its hotels without slashing prices and taking advantage of the fact that competitive Arab regions such as Turkey and Egypt are worse off, and improving service.
Entrepreneurs in the industry have taken the crisis seriously and, while economic isues have put the rest of Spain in a serious coma, have shown that while they were the first to enter the crisis, they will be the firs to leave it.
That is reflected in figures published by the National Statistics Instituto (INE in Spanish), which indicates that in the month of July alone, Spansh hoteliers registered 38 million guest days, a 7.7% increase compared to the same period of time last year.
The INE?s figures came one day after the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce provided figures of their own, which validated this powerful moment for the tourism industry. 32.2 million foreign tourists visited Spain during the first 7 months of the year, a 7.4% growth rate compared to the same period in 2010.
