Brussels tries to eliminate industrial fuel use

The European Commission is discussing a directive that proposes new taxation on energy. The directive would be bad news for companies and consumers. Brussels has decided to eliminate what is known as "industrial fuel." Beginning in January 2013, the EC will revoke the power of member states to distinguish taxes on fuel used for industrial work.

That is to say, that it will eliminate the possibility of receiving refunds from the federal tax office for consumption of this kind of fuel.

Industrial fuel is taxed at 84.1 euros per 1,000 liters at this time. Total cost per liter equals 337.9 euros, which would increase to approximately 390 euros after the new tax is imposed.

Specifically, in 2010 the new costs of the return on behalf of the Tax Agency for all the transportation companies enrolled in the Census of Beneficiaries for Industrial Fuel rose 0.29 euros per liter, according to data from Fenadismer.
