It´s official: We´re going to get retirement at age 67 and pay more social security

"A before and after" in the history of the pension system: retirement benefits will come at age 67, interns and stay at home moms that will be subscribed to the Social Security plan. Yesterday the Congress of Deputies finished what was not a mere formality, as what predicted, he only accounted for the votes from PSOE and CiU, and definitely approved the long viacrucis that the pension system reforms had proposed, one of the more polemical points of the Spanish government´s political agenda.

With this outlook, many consider that Zapatero´s reform program could finally come undone, and the same goes for his current term in office.

The Plenary of Congress permanently shelved a law designed to modernize the social security system by including more than 40 amendments incorporated in the Senate.

The amendments mark, as Minster of Labor Valeriano Gómez noted, "a before and after." In her opinion, the law guarantees its sustainability, strengthens relations between generations and mitigates risk associated with pensions, because it is "fruit" of the social contract and ?underpins? the architecture of a state of well-being.
