Germany won´t attend urgent meeting and demands defaults on Greek debt

Yesterday politicians showed a low level of credibility in facing the euro´s problems, which indicates that they haven?t changed much since the global economic crisis began five years ago. The 17 countries in the Eurogroup are planning a meeting to patch together a solution that will arm Greece, Italy and Spain against rampant speculation. "France was always in support of holding Eurogroup meetings when they were necessary," said Valérie Pecresse, the Minister of the Budget and spokesperson for the French government according to Agence France Press, a French news agency.

On the French side they are fighting for Spain, Italy and Greece, who are all in need of support. The conservative Belgian Herman Van Rompuy (president of the European Council) and the conservative Portuguese José Manuel Durao Barroso (president of the European Comission) are maneuvering in favor of the meeting that could take place on Friday evening, Saturday or another upcoming time.

The allies from Berlin

"The summit plans are not concrete," a spokesperson from Berlin said yesterday. "What´s important is that the economic ministers maintain a steady rhythm in their efforts to help Greece," the spokesperson added. Germany, the country with the most influence in these communal decisions and most taxpayers supporting the recovery fund dedicated to countries who are in a bind, is hesitating to agree to this meeting.

And they are counting on support from the Netherlands and Finland, the other two main contributors to the recovery plans.
