Zapatero implicates Merkel in debt crisis and asks her to take action

Developed economies have a Plan B for when Plan A fails. All of them, including ordinary citizens that are going to a travel agency to reserve a cruise (Plan A) and, if this fails, a two-week stay in the Caribbean (Plan B). But neither yesterday nor the day before were worth celebrating. Especially with a president like José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, who still hasn´t realized that it´s not worth it to deliberately disregard important issues (Plan A) and blame others for what is clearly our crisis (also Plan A).

Yesterday, Angela Merkel was another one of his victims. Herman van Rompuy, the president of the European Council who had met the king just a few times before in Zarzuela, was a witness.

At the beginning of the year the German chancellor made clear her mistrust of our government, but now Zapatero doubts Merkel and is passing responsibility for the European crisis to her.

"All Eurozone countries have to take responsibility, especially the strongest countries. That is expecting the best for our collective efforts." Zapatero spoke without any pretext and asked for some compromises from his German counterpart. "Only a response from a unified Europe will bring confidence back to the markets," he said.
