Endesa to invest 1 billion euros in Brazilian and Chilean wind farms

Endesa has put its sights on Brazil and Chile and is trying to make advances there. The company is participating in bidding for Brazilian wind energy, anticipated to open up next July. The deals could bring some 709 euros while at the same time that the biggest complete wind deal in Chile could follow. The latter could result in an investment of 177.2 million euros. Brazilian president Borja Prado just announced plans for growth during a shareholder meeting on May 9. Simply, the electric company is making auction reserve calls (destined to improve the security level of an interconnected system) to A-3 (destined to attend to the distributor demands).

His presence in this litigation is centered on five wind power projects totaling a capacity of 424 megawatts, half of what is used by the state of Ceará. Endesa?s Brazilian subsidiary Coelce is already operating there and in the Rio Grande do Norte.

The group wants to develop growth in Brazil, a country that still is not a leader. Something quite different than the situation in Chile, Argentina, Columbia and Peru.

La Empresa de Investigación Energética is coordinating inscriptions in the auctions and demand a series of documents, between those that are necessary to present prior environmental licenses.

In Endesa?s case, the license was asked for beforehand, but in order to close the adjudication, the organization also asked Endesa for more licenses and papers corresponding to this year?s sale.

Auction registration was closed on May 4 (an extension was granted on April 19) with a significant number of wind farms deriving from the planned projects. This bidding has sparked interest from other Spanish companies who see great potential considering that the projects under construction will improve the country?s wind power capacity to 5,300 megawatts in 2013. It is currently at 930 megawatts.
