
Yesterday violent protests about the economic crisis broke in Barcelona and Athens. Hundreds of demonstrators showed their frustration with the consequences of the economic crisis and political class. At times they expressed their thoughts through violent behavior.
In Barcelona the youth of 15-M led the most virulent protest this movement has created so far. The protest coincided with a debate about autonomous government budgets trimming social cutbacks. Their boycott in the entryway of the Parliament building was a photo for the annals.
It pictured some of the protestors and the Catalan president arriving by helicopter alongside a series of warnings, which were placed by authorities and Catalan nationals and were referring to protestors who had "crossed the red lines" the day before.
Meanwhile, Greece survived its third round of strikes yesterday.
Although the strikes before the Athens parliament started with peaceful demonstrations intending to express disagreement with how their government has managed they money gained from its second bailout, they turned into violent confrontations that left at least 40 wounded and 25 arrested according to Efe.
In Barcelona, protestors concentrated at the gates of the Citadel to try to prevent deputies entering the parliament and discuss public accounts for 2011, which could approve a cut of 10 per percent in spending that affects health and education.
