Austerity or deprivation?

Correctly understood, austerity is not a virtue that can improve results without compromising legitimate needs and rights. This concept applies to individuals as much as international government, constitutional texts and protectionist law.

In light of the government anchored in Mäastricht and developed in recent accords and treaties, which consists of eliminating deficits by decreasing spending instead of increasing taxes, cutbacks are already enough of a common denominator for so-called conservatives as for social democrats.

Practices and discourse about austerity are sprinkled throughout the language of the Roman statesman Cato and pass off as virtue what not is a necessary economic policy, all of which is marked by a return to outdated parameters.

Measures that the new governments developed from the May 22 elections are ready to be enacted. They are not a late application of guidelines provided by Zapatero?s government.
