
Each Spaniard carries a heavy bag of public debt. From the State, autonomous communities, the deputations, the councils and island councils, the municipalities and public enterprises that all these organisms used as parallel administrations. Each of the 47.1 million residents in Spain on January has the dubious honor of carrying a debt per capita of 12,665 euros, their share of EUR 566.89 billion in debt reached by the state at the end of March of this year. But quantity does not stop there, far from it.
By the end of 2010 the autonomous communities contributed, according to last homogeneous data 115.45 billion euros on account of their administration, which must be added to the 17.28 billion euros for debts incurred by their companies and public bodies. Coming to a bill of 132.73 billion euros.
But things aren?t settle there, other municipalities and local government, provincial and island have their pending debt, amounting to 35.44 billion euros, which rise in turn to 9.06 billion euros. So we must add another 44.50 billion.
Autonomies, in detail
Naturally the government debt is apportioned among all residents, but it would be unfair to make the general calculation with regional and municipal debt, because both can be released at retail. What arises from this calculation is that it can be a difference of very large debt per capita from one to another community. The largest, occurs between Catalonia and Murcia, both top and bottom, which is estimated at 3,895 euros.
The debt incurred by the Andalusian board stands at 12.176 billion, which must be added to the 602 million from public enterprises. Each of the 8,4 million residents supports a debt of 1,518 euros.
If we talk about Aragon residents, supported debt reaches 2.9 billion euros, rising to 3.35 if you add public enterprises. This means that every resident in this community has on his back 2,493 euros.
In the case of a resident living in Asturias, the debt burden of the Principality will be of 1.913 billion, of which 279 million are from public enterprises. This means that every citizen has about 1,769 euros of debt.
Baleares Autonomous Community is the second in debt per resident. The Government of the islands has accumulated 4.742 billion euros in debt (678 million from companies and government agencies). Each person living there has a debt of 4,264 euros.
At the other islands, the Canaries, residents are better off, because the insular government has less debt, EUR 3.542 billion, but the population exceeds of 2.12 billion residents, making each of the Canaries underwent a regional debt of 1,666 euros.
A somewhat higher debt is borne by each inhabitant of Cantabria, just 1,748 euros, which corresponds to a total of 1.035 billion for the regional government, of which 124 million are attributable to companies and government agencies.
The political change in Castilla-La Mancha-strate can find some explanation in the fact that this community has risen its debt very considerably in 2010, by 35 percent. The result is that debt stood at 6.758 billion euros, with 939 million of them relating to companies and government agencies. This makes each resident Castilian-Manchego support a debt of 3,198 euros.
Castilla-Leonese has a significantly lower per capita debt, which government keeps alive a portfolio of 4.643 billion euros (349 million public sector enterprise), which means 1,817 euros per capita.
The problems of fiscal imbalance of Catalonia have an expression for each of its citizens to be the largest debt regionally supported, 5,268 euros, following a Government debt of 31.886 billion, which must be added to the 7.811 billion euros of agencies and public enterprises.
