J. R. Pin Arboledas: Polyhedral results

There are several readings on the 22-M results. Therefore, they could be classified as polyhedral. They can be analyzed in economic terms, power of territorial balance, national cohesion and possible and the possible emergence of new political alternatives. Let?s analyze each one of these points.

Economy: an even weaker government. Zapatero's Government appears weaker, after the lost, by number of votes and councils in the elections by the PSOE: with the PP government in the regions where it had ruling majority and tipping over in Castilla -La Mancha, the Balearic Islands, Extremadura, Cantabria, Canary? Aragon? Asturias?, Sevilla, Barcelona? What will international investors and European leaders think? Would the first think that ruling will be more difficult and will potentially increase the spread of the Spanish sovereign debt? Would those who rule in the euro area think that the executive will not be able to make the reforms and push it more? Would the utopist electioneering ministry ZP curl up on the left or recover the reformist sense? In a few weeks we will see the consequences.

The president has performed a double mistake. First, his re-election early resignation has not been possible to retrace to PSOE, and second, that decision makes it difficult for early elections. He needs to allow time for the primaries and the candidate who comes out of them. All of this with investors and Europe watching. A dying economic period awaits until 201 , mitigated by summer tourism.

Territorial balance

The balance of territorial power: for the PP. The PP has advanced in many places at the expense of the PSOE. Is the natural wear of mismanagement of the economic crisis. The question is: if there is not early election, pending the Socialist primary, What is the role of an opposition winner?

The economic logic would be that the government asks the help of the opposition to agree on reforms. The PP will be faced with the dilemma of appearing as little solidarity by refusing or the steward of the unpopular measures. The only alternative would be to escape from the trap requesting early elections, something that will be difficult to obtain.

National cohesion

National cohesion: Madrid, Spain and Bildu breakwaters, "Spain breaks? The outcome of this election has various interpretartions. One is the result of UPyD in Madrid, which will group in the community, the capital and many municipalities.

Another is that Bildu?s lists have been voted in Euskalerria. Rosa Díez (Basque) has proven that its bid stalled as Spanish and as an alternative to the two political forces. Which of the two offers has weighed more? Madrid has said it believes in Spain, in its existence. Madrid has once again been breakwater of Spain.

In summary, polyhedral results, in which the PSOE loses and the PP wins, but that there is something moving into other alternatives.
