New York, Feb 9 (EFE).- Tommy Hilfiger presented Saturday a contemporary take on men's suits of the 1960s with his fall-winter collection during New York Fashion Week, on a day when Rebeca Minkoff showed off her modern "grunge" and Cesar Galindo flaunted Latin elegance.
The Tommy Hilfiger show at a historic military barracks in the city of skyscrapers combined the classicism of English bespoke suits with modern cuts and daring combinations of colors and prints in a collection called "Savile Row Meets Ivy League."
The classicism came from suits and trousers in fabrics with Prince of Wales and houndstooth checks, but the prints were often of different sizes and unusual colors.
Sometimes the backs of suits were fashioned in a smooth fabric and a different color, like khaki, to create a strong visual contrast with the black-and-white checks in front.
There were also several-piece outfits with, for example, the traditional woolen overcoat, blazer and pants in classic navy blue, but with red lines to add a note of modernity.
The brand defines the style of this collection as "tailoring without the stuffy formality."
In other fashion shows on Saturday, Rebecca Minkoff presented a collection of very urban lines, Carmen Marc Valvo offered elegance without sacrificing comfort, while the New York-based Austrian Helmut Lang remained faithful to his deconstructivist line.
Cesar Galindo kicked off the day off with his line of elegant, sensual and above all "convertible" clothes that can be transformed to suit many different occasions.
