Futures soar on U.S. bank capital boost

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Stock index futures soared to session highs on Tuesday as the U.S. Treasury Department announced that it will inject $250 billion of capital in major U.S. banks to stabilize the financial system and unfreeze lending.

S&P 500 futures jumped 43.10 points and were above fair value, a formula that evaluates pricing by taking into account interest rates, dividends and time to expiration on the contract. Dow Jones industrial average futures climbed 337 points and Nasdaq 100 futures gained 35.50 points.
