NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. stocks ended a volatile session higher on Tuesday, with the S&P 500 recovering from a drop of more than 1 percent as energy shares gained alongside an afternoon rebound in crude oil prices.
The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> rose 95.94 points, or 0.54 percent, to 17,779.52, the S&P 500 <.SPX> gained 12.84 points, or 0.62 percent, to 2,081.6 and the Nasdaq Composite <.IXIC> added 5.52 points, or 0.11 percent, to 4,997.46.
