Wall St. ends up as views shift on Fed's next move

NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. stocks ended higher on Tuesday, with the S&P 500 notching its best performance in a month after a news report shifted investor expectations for the Federal Reserve's policy statement Wednesday.

Based on the latest available data, the Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> rose 100.96 points, or 0.59 percent, to 17,132.1, the S&P 500 <.SPX> gained 14.87 points, or 0.75 percent, to 1,999 and the Nasdaq Composite <.IXIC> added 33.86 points, or 0.75 percent, to 4,552.76.
