DUBLIN (Reuters) - The leader of Ireland's centre-right Fine Gael party Enda Kenny was elected prime minister in a parliamentary vote on Wednesday giving him a mandate to lead efforts to renegotiate an unpopular bailout.
His coalition with the centre-left Labour Party holds a record majority after a historic election win dominated by voter anger over a property crash that led to a humiliating 85 billion euros (73 billion pound) EU/IMF rescue package.
Kenny has pledged to wring easier terms on the loans from EU partners as part of a regional deal on resolving Europe's sovereign debt crisis set to be hammered out at summit on March 24-25.
