IMF head says favors midterm fiscal consolidation

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - International Monetary Fund Managing Director Dominique Stauss-Kahn said on Thursday he was "strongly in favor" of medium-term fiscal consolidation but that does not mean each country needs to tighten in the short term.

The crisis is over for high-growing Asia and South American nations, while the recovery is less certain in Europe and the United States, Strauss-Kahn told a news conference.
