Stock futures turn up as recovery strengthens

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Stock index futures turned positive on Thursday after data showed a decline in applications for unemployment insurance and a tick-up in the final revision of second quarter U.S. gross domestic product.

S&P 500 futures rose 2.3 points and were above fair value, a formula that evaluates pricing by taking into account interest rates, dividends and time to expiration on the contract. Dow Jones industrial average futures gained 23 points and Nasdaq 100 futures added 5 points.

A third report showed business activity in New York City rose in September for the first time in four months, further suggesting improvement in the economy.
