NEW YORK (Reuters) - Stocks ended little changed on Tuesday after promising data from the retail sector was offset by a sell-off in bank shares as investors locked in recent gains.
The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> slipped 17.64 points, or 0.17 percent, to 10,526.49. The Standard & Poor's 500 <.SPX> dipped 0.81 point, or 0.07 percent, to 1,121.09. The Nasdaq Composite <.IXIC> gained 4.06 points, or 0.18 percent, to 2,289.77.
