Indexes end up on better economic outlook

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The Dow and S&P 500 closed the week with their seventh gain in eight sessions on Friday in a turnaround period for stocks that has seen investors' worst fears about the economy start to dissipate.

Combined trading volume on NYSE Arca, Nasdaq and American Stock Exchanges was the lowest daily volume of the year, according to preliminary figures.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> was up 44.42 points, or 0.43 percent, at 10,459.66. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> was up 5.02 points, or 0.45 percent, at 1,109.20. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> was up 5.15 points, or 0.23 percent, at 2,241.35.

For the week, the Dow rose 0.1 percent and the S&P and Nasdaq rose 0.5 percent.
