NEW YORK (Reuters) - Stocks opened down slightly on Thursday after first-time jobless claims rose in the latest week, underscoring a tepid economic recovery.
The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> was down 40.64 points, or 0.39 percent, at 10,374.90. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> was down 4.56 points, or 0.42 percent, at 1,089.60. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> was down 10.14 points, or 0.46 percent, at 2,205.56.
