Stocks drop on profit worries

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Stocks fell on Tuesday, led by technology companies on concerns a sharp global economic slowdown would crimp profits.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 163.60 points, or 1.74 percent, to 9,224.01, while the Standard & Poor's 500 Index dropped 16.51 points, or 1.65 percent, to 986.84. The Nasdaq Composite Index was down 64.67 points, or 3.51 percent, at 1,779.58.
