Sadr MP seriously wounded in Baghdad

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A roadside bomb seriously wounded a member of parliament from anti-American cleric Moqtada al Sadr's bloc in Baghdad on Thursday, one of his bodyguards said.

A bodyguard for Saleh al-Ugaili said the politician was hit in the head in the attack, which occurred in the Habibiya district of eastern Baghdad, and was in intensive care.

"A bomb hit his vehicle as he was driving through Habibiya. He was hit in the head, and is unconscious and in intensive care," Ali Abbas Rhaima told Reuters.

Rhaima said none of Ugaili's bodyguards were killed.

A police source confirmed the attack and said a bomb was planted on a motorbike and exploded as Ugaili's convoy was driving by in Habibiya.

He said two bodyguards were killed in the attack and four people were wounded including Ugaili.
