Suicide bomber kills 10 Iraqis during U.S. raid

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A suicide bomber detonated an explosive vest during a U.S. raid in northern Iraq on Sunday killing 10 Iraqis and the bomber, the U.S. military said.

Three women and three children were among those killed during the operation targeting a wanted man in Mosul, some 390 km (240 miles), north of Baghdad.

"This is just another tragic example of how al Qaeda in Iraq hides behind innocent Iraqis," Rear Admiral Patrick Driscoll, spokesman for U.S. forces in Iraq, said in a statement.

The statement said that U.S. forces exchanged fire with armed men as they entered the building, but a military spokesman said all the Iraqis were killed by the bomb.

The U.S. soldiers later found weapons and explosives in the building, the statement said.
