(Reuters) - John McCain will accept the Republican presidential nomination this week, but Hurricane Gustav has disrupted the schedule for his Republican party convention in St. Paul, Minnesota.
MONDAY, September 1
The convention will meet from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. localtime (9 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. British time) for official business.There will be no political speakers. Some of them may speaklater in the week, pending the impact of the hurricane.
The schedule for the remainder of the week has not beenannounced but had included the following:
TUESDAY, September 2
Three of McCain's former rivals for the nomination --former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, former Arkansas Gov.Mike Huckabee and former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson -- willspeak on a day designed to emphasize McCain's record as areformer.
Other speakers include: former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge;Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman; and Hawaii Gov. Linda Lingle.
WEDNESDAY, September 3
McCain's vice presidential choice, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin,will speak on a day which will focus on McCain's economicproposals.
Other speakers include: Cindy McCain, the candidate's wife;former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney; former eBay Inc. CEO MegWhitman; former Hewlett-Packard Co. CEO Carly Fiorina;Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, and Minnesota Sen. Norm Coleman.
THURSDAY, September 4
McCain will accept the nomination on a day that will focuson national security and foreign affairs.
Other speakers include Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, KansasSen. Sam Brownback, South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham andFlorida Sen. Mel Martinez.
