HARARE (Reuters) - Zimbabwe's opposition Movement for Democratic Change on Tuesday handed a letter to the electoral commission formally withdrawing from a June 27 presidential run-off, a party spokesman said.
"The letter was delivered this afternoon to ZEC...It wasvery clear and well articulated stating our position that wehave withdrawn from the runoff," MDC spokesman Nelson Chamisatold Reuters.
MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai said on Sunday he waswithdrawing from the race against President Robert Mugabebecause his supporters would risk their lives by voting. ButMugabe's government says it is too late to call off the poll.
