HK typhoon warning remains in effect, markets to stay closed

HONG KONG (Reuters) - The Hong Kong weather service said on its website Thursday that its No.8 typhoon warning signal would remain in effect for most of the day.

This means that the city's financial markets will remain closed for the afternoon session. Earlier, the Hong Kong stock exchange said that afternoon trade would be cancelled if the warning signal remained hoisted at 5 a.m. British time (noon local time).

Hong Kong has a series of different typhoon warnings. Schools, businesses and government services close when any No. 8 or above typhoon warning is hoisted.
