Egypt prime minister quits, new government soon - army

CAIRO (Reuters) - Egypt's military rulers have accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq and appointed a former transport minister, Essam Sharaf, to form a new government, the army said in a statement on Thursday.

The statement was carried on the military's Facebook page and then confirmed to Reuters by a military spokesman.
