Zimbabwe's Tsvangirai back home after treatment

HARARE (Reuters) - Zimbabwean Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai returned home on Monday after treatment in Botswana for injuries in a car crash that killed his wife, a Reuters witness said.

The tragedy comes at a difficult time for Tsvangirai, who faces the daunting task of rescuing the ruined country under a new unity government with President Robert Mugabe, his old rival.

Tsvangirai's Movement for Democratic Change has said it will conduct its own probe into the accident to see whether foul play was involved.

Tsvangirai, whose face was swollen, was met by officials from the party and government at Harare International Airport. He did not speak to journalists.

Many Zimbabweans are suspicious over the crash, which took place on a potholed highway, one of the country's most dangerous and busiest routes.

The driver of a truck that slammed into Tsvangirai's vehicle was on Monday expected to be charged with culpable homicide, his lawyer said.
