German Economy Minister offers to resign

BERLIN (Reuters) - German Economy Minister Michael Glos has written to his Christian Social Union (CSU) party chief to offer his resignation as minister, a ministry spokesman confirmed on Saturday.

Glos informed Chancellor Angela Merkel of the letter to CSU party chief Horst Seehofer by telephone on Saturday afternoon, the Bild am Sonntag newspaper reported.

In the letter, Glos said he did not intend to serve as a government minister after a federal election due in September.

"As I will turn 65 this year, my lifeplanning is not consistent with belonging to a cabinet after September 28," he wrote.
