Sao Paulo, May 2 (EFE).- At least 10 buses were damaged and looted in the interior of the southeastern Brazilian state of Sao Paulo, the Transurc urban-transport federation said Friday.
Purported vandals shattered the windows and destroyed the security cameras and internal lighting of the buses in the city of Campinas, causing more than 12,000 reais (some $5,381) in damage on Thursday, the federation said.
Last week, suspected arsonists burned more than 30 buses owned by the company Auto Viação Urubupunga in Osasco, also located in Sao Paulo state, in a single night.
Vandals have attacked buses in recent months in different Brazilian cities, in some cases as part of protests against inadequate public services in poor areas or police-related killings.
More than 110 buses have been attacked thus far this year in Greater Sao Paulo, the state government-owned EMTU urban-transport company told Efe.
