Mexico City, Feb 13 (EFE).- One of two suspects in the slaying of a Canadian couple in the western state of Jalisco is in custody, Mexican authorities said Thursday.
Linda Marian Discombe, 72, and husband Edward J. Kular, 84, were killed Sunday during a robbery at their vacation home on the banks of Lake Chapala.
Police apprehended Chapala resident Julio Cesar Castillo Casillas on Wednesday, the Jalisco state Attorney General's Office said in a statement.
The 31-year-old construction worker has a record of arrests for robbery and breaking and entering.
Castillo and his brother broke into the Discombe-Kular home last Sunday. Confronted by the residents, the brothers killed the couple with a knife and a wooden sculpture, according to the AG's office.
The robbers left with a big-screen television and other appliances, cash, debit cards and the couple's vehicle.
"The two brothers took equal shares of the money, with which Julio Cesar bought clothes and drugs," the official statement said.
