Bodies of 3 missing activists found in Mexico

Mexico City, Jun 4 (EFE).- The bodies of three of the eight community activists reported missing last week in the southern Mexican state of Guerrero have been found, state officials said.

The activists disappeared after participating in a protest staged last Thursday by Unidad Popular, or UP, to demand fertilizer and public works projects in their communities, press reports said.

The missing activists were involved in an altercation with Federal Police officers and were not heard from after the protest, UP representatives said.

The three bodies were found Monday on the Mezcala-Iguala stretch of the Mexico City-Acapulco federal highway, the state government said in a statement.

The activists appear to have been tortured and were shot, media reports said.
