Uganda seizes explosives, suicide vests from suspected al Shabaab cell

NAIROBI (Reuters) - Police in the Ugandan capital of Kampala seized "substantial amounts of explosives" and suicide vests in raids on a suspected al Shabaab terror cell that was planning an imminent attack, a Ugandan official said in an interview on Sunday.

Information Minister Rose Namayanja said Uganda is urging the public to "remain vigilent" as it continues its investigation into the planned attack, which the government believes targeted central Kampala.

Uganda said it had arrested 19 foreigners on Saturday in connection with a foiled attack.
