U.N. climate talks delay on carbon capture funds

POZNAN, Poland (Reuters) - U.N. climate negotiators meeting in Poland delayed until next year a decision whether to allow power plants to earn carbon offsets by fitting equipment which traps and buries carbon emissions underground.

"By default under the rules of procedure the issue has been deferred until May, June," a U.N. official, Grant Kirkman, told Reuters.

The official referred to proposals to include un-tested carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology in a carbon trading scheme administered by the U.N. climate agency called the clean development mechanism (CDM).
