NEW YORK (Reuters) - The S&P 500 and Nasdaq tumbled more than 7 percent on Monday late in the session as economic reports showing further evidence of the worsening global economic climate were backed up in comments from Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke.
The Dow Jones industrial average fell 606.04 points, or 6.86 percent, at 8,223.00. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index plunged 71.89 points, or 8.02 percent, at 824.35. The Nasdaq Composite Index was down 117.68 points, or 7.66 percent, at 1,417.89.
