Semiconductor Industry Veteran is Tapped to Lead Plastic Logic´s Cambridge R&D Center

eReader developer Plastic Logic today named Martin Jackson, one of the UK´s leading technologists, as its Vice President, Technology to head its Cambridge R&D center. Jackson has more than 20 years of executive and technical management experience in leading corporate and technical strategies in the communications, consumer electronics, and semiconductor industries.

"Martin brings unsurpassed industry and technical expertise and a track record that will strengthen our leadership position in plastic electronics," said Plastic Logic CEO Richard Archuleta. "An early eBook advocate, Martin also brings unique perspective to our product development team. In directing our Cambridge R&D center, Martin will be a key champion and strategist for our plastic electronics display technology and work closely with our Mountain View product engineering group and our Dresden, Germany manufacturing team on the evolution of our flagship eReader product," said Archuleta.

The co–founder of four startups, Jackson most recently served as CTO for Artimi Ltd, a Cambridge–based semiconductor company leading the delivery of high speed wireless connectivity in portable consumer electronics devices. At Artimi, he was responsible for the development and delivery of the industry´s first demonstration of next–generation High–Speed Bluetooth over Ultra Wideband at 3 GSM in February of 2007. Previously, Jackson was CTO at Frontier Silicon, a fabless semiconductor company that pioneered digital broadcasting. He also served as CTO of DSL semiconductor company GlobespanVirata (later merged with Conexant Corp.). He came to Globespan via the merger with Virata, where he served as VP Engineering, CTO and a Board Director. In the early days of his career, Jackson co–founded a company that developed one of the world´s first pen based PDAs - a forerunner to today´s eBook products.

"It´s very exciting to be at the beginning of the plastic electronics revolution. Technology improvements will open up whole new applications," commented Jackson. "But one of the things that attracted me most to Plastic Logic was the unfulfilled promise of the eBook. Nearly twenty years ago, I co–founded a company that was going to make a pen based PDA and one of the applications was as an eReader; unfortunately we were a little too early. Today, Plastic Logic´s thin, light plastic electronics–based electronic reader is poised to make the long held promise of the eBook a reality."

Jackson holds a First–Class Honours degree with distinction in electronic engineering from Cambridge University. He serves on the Board of Directors of DisplayLink.
