Sparklike: The First CE Certified GPS Repeater on Sale in EU

High tech company Sparklike Ltd. is launching a first CE certified GPS repeater along an entire GPS product family accepted by the information and telecommunication administrator. The GPS repeater transmits GPS signal to indoors and enables the GPS terminals, like navigators and GPS follow–up systems to work in places where there are no straight lines of sight to satellites.

GPS repeater systems are first taken into use in Finland and Sweden by the local rescue and emergency institutions. Products have also been installed to indoor premises that are in the use of police, airline companies and companies that are involved in GPS product service and research. Also the suitability for the product in the use of the military forces will be investigated in the future.

How does a GPS repeater work?

GPS repeater is a device that is used to transmit GPS signals to places where they normally can not reach. The GPS repeater operates by receiving GPS satellite signals with an antenna located outside the building and re–transmits them indoors or covered spaces. The use of re–transmitted signals mean that the GPS receiver is tracking the current GPS status. This means that when the receiver (navigator etc.) is moved from indoors to outside, the GPS receiver is instantly tracking the location, instead of several minutes consuming acquisition of current GPS state.

The limited using readiness for GPS devices indoors is history

The biggest advantage for the GPS signal transmitted indoors are most definitely in rescue and emergency situations where the rescue vehicles have their terminals in state of readiness already before the alert. Therefore it will not take several minutes from the navigators in the vehicles to locate the moving car and the receive right route to the destination. This reduction of the reaction time can save human lives. Also the automatic/instant location for other vehicles or security transportations in the beginning or destination depots is important in most cases for the security and tracking ability of the transportation.
