Stock futures point to lower Wall Street open

REUTERS - Futures for the Dow Jones industrial average, the Nasdaq 100 and the S&P 500 share indexes were down 2.7-3.1 percent on Friday, pointing to a lower start on Wall Street.

* In extended trade on Thursday, shares in IBM rose 1.7 percent, Google Inc gained 7.5 percent and Advanced Micro Devices was up 7.4 percent after their results beat Wall Street estimates.

* At 1230 GMT, the U.S. Commerce Department is scheduled to release housing starts and permits for September. Economists in a Reuters survey forecast a median fall to 880,000 housing starts from 895,000 in August, and a total of 850,000 permits in September, compared with 857,000 in August.

* Reuters/University of Michigan Surveys of Consumers' October preliminary consumer sentiment index is at 1355 GMT. Economists in a Reuters survey expect a median reading of 65.5 compared with 70.3 in the final September report.

* At 1430 GMT, U.S. Economic Cycle Research Institute (ECRI) is set to release its weekly index of economic activity for the week ended October 10. In the prior week the index read 120.6 and its annualized growth rate stood at -14.7 percent.
