The well known cheese ripener (affineur) von Muhlenen of Fribourg
Switzerland, with its history dating back four generations to 1861,
and their neighbours, the second largest dairy in Switzerland - Cremo,
have agreed to a strategic partnership. Cremo will take a seat on the
Board of directors at von Muhlenen. The Management of von Muhlenen
with Walo von Muhlenen as Director, and Roger von Muhlenen as
President, remains unchanged.
The combination of these two partners forms a new strong company
in the Swiss Cheese market. The synergies between these two companies
are enormous. Von Muhlenen cheeses are mainly distributed on the
export markets, whereas Cremo, mainly distribute their cheeses and
dairy products in the home market of Switzerland. This cooperation
gives advantages to both; Cremo will now have greater access to the
worldwide export markets in which von Muhlenen has a strong presence
across 16 different countries, whilst von Muhlenen can distribute
their consistently award winning World Champion cheeses, Gruyere
premier Cru and Emmental premier Cru, to the previously much sown up
home market of Switzerland.
Synergies also exist in the cheese ripening, for some time Cremo
have taken advantage of von Muhlenen's cheese ripening skills and
expertise, with von Muhlenen ripening raw milk cheeses that were
produced by Cremo. This collaboration is set to increase in the
future, whilst at the same time ensuring that the focus that has meant
that von Muhlenen are considered to be at the pinnacle of excellence,
on the worldwide stage for Gruyere and Emmental cheese making and
ripening, will not be lost.
Von Muhlenen is the leading Swiss export company for high quality
raw milk cheeses. Their outstanding quality has been awarded many
times. The largest successes are the 8 World Champion titles that von
Muhlenen has won for its Le Gruyere Premier Cru and Emmentaler Premier
Cru raw milk cheeses.
Cremo, based in Villars-sur Glane, is the second largest dairy
company in Switzerland, collecting and transforming 360 millions kg of
milk. They produce well known cheeses such as Vacherin Fribourgeois
AOC, Emmental Switzerland AOC, Le Gruyere Switzerland AOC, and
Raclette. Besides cheese, Cremo produces other dairy products such as
milk, cream, butter and milk powder.
