RoadSync Continues to Fill the Gap Between New Mobility Features
Added to Microsoft Exchange and Windows Mobile-Powered
Devices Already in the Market
DataViz, Inc., announced today that RoadSync, its Exchange
ActiveSync client, is now available for mobile devices with Windows
Mobile 2003 Second Edition software. In addition to wirelessly
synchronizing e-mail, attachments, calendar and contacts, this edition
of RoadSync supports new mobility features added in Microsoft Exchange
Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2) such as: Direct Push Technology,
Remote Wipe, Global Address List Lookup and IT Policy Enforcement. As
Microsoft Exchange added these new mobility features in SP2, a
corresponding Messaging and Security Feature Pack (MSFP) was added to
Windows Mobile 5.0 software, but there was still a need for comparable
MSFP features for Windows Mobile 2003-based devices. DataViz has
stepped in to fill this need with RoadSync by effectively delivering a
similar feature pack for devices with Windows Mobile 2003 Second
Edition software. This provides IT departments the ability to further
maximize their existing device investments while offering mobility in
a more secure and managed way.
DataViz will also offer RoadSync for Windows Mobile 5.0. This
version will build upon the current wireless synchronization
capabilities while adding support for new Exchange 2007 productivity
features such as: e-mail flagging, online mailbox search, support for
linked SharePoint files and more.
"As an Independent Software Vendor (ISV) we are able to react
quickly and extend the reach of the new mobility features added to
Exchange, making those enhancements available to devices already
shipping in the market today," said Ilya Eliashevsky RoadSync product
manager, DataViz, Inc. "RoadSync for Windows Mobile 2003 makes the key
SP2 features, such as Direct Push, available to the tens of thousands
of Windows Mobile 2003 devices already in today's enterprises. As
Exchange 2007 adds new mobility features we plan to subsequently make
many of those features available for current devices running Windows
Mobile 5.0."
"The Messaging and Security Feature Pack for Windows Mobile offers
e-mail and other updated Outlook items such as calendar, tasks and
contacts, delivered to a device in real time, providing yet another
option in how people stay connected to important information while on
the go," said Chris Hill, group product manager, Microsoft Corp. "We
are pleased that DataViz is bringing this experience to businesses and
individuals currently using Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition-based
devices."
The following features are among those that are supported with
RoadSync for Windows Mobile 2003 when installed in combination with
SP2:
Direct Push Technology
Support for Direct Push Technology ensures that the device
automatically receives new e-mail and other PIM data from a company's
Exchange Server. RoadSync uses an HTTP connection with
industry-standard SSL encryption to securely push e-mail, calendar and
contact notifications to and from the device.
Remote Wipe Security
Through central device management tools, Exchange administrators
can trigger a remote wipe to remove all sensitive data from the
device. This security feature will help to ensure corporate data is
not compromised when devices are lost or fall into the wrong hands.
Global Address List (GAL)
Over-the-air access to the corporate contact list, also known as
GAL, provides a deeper level of mobile office connectivity while
maintaining a local personalized and filtered contact list on the
mobile device.
Select IT Policies
Support for select remotely enforced IT policies will provide
Exchange administrators with the ability to manage user policies such
as requiring a device password.
Support for Exchange 2007
DataViz will also have editions of RoadSync that will support many
of the new mobility features in Exchange 2007 for a variety of
platforms including Windows Mobile 5.0, Symbian S60 and UIQ 3.0.
